Guess What Day It Is????

Nope.....It's not "Hump Day"!!! But did you know that every day is a holiday? Everywhere, everyday someone is celebrating something. Some of these "holidays" are specific to a certain area, some are true holidays that everyone celebrates like New Year's Day. And of course, some of them (like Christmas, Ramadan or Hanukkah) are specific to certain religions. Some are meant to draw awareness to a specific illness. For example, September 13th is "National Celiac Awareness Day". It's a day that is meant to draw attention to an illness that affects more than 3 million people.

Still, others are meant to bring about a certain amount of togetherness through remembrance of a tragedy. Pearl Harbor Day (December 7)  is a day that we commemorate the attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii by the Japanese during WWII. President FDR said it best when he said that it is a "date which will live in infamy". Another such date is 9/11/01....The date that the World Trade Center and Pentagon were attacked. It is commemorated with Patriot's Day.

But there are others that just make NO sense whatsoever!!! For instance, September 3 is National Lazy Mom's Day. Yep...you read that correctly. LAZY MOM's DAY. Why???!!! I'm pretty sure mom's everywhere were cringing at that one!!! As if there isn't enough problems with people thinking they stay at home all day doing nothing but sit on their asses in their pajamas while watching soap operas and eating bon bons.

There's Awkward Moments Day in March (Don't we wanna forget our awkward moments?); Barbershop Quartet Day and Be Nice to Lawyers Day (yeah, right)..both in April. National Happiness Happens Day and National Fresh Breath Day, both in August. Call me crazy, but shouldn't they be EVERY DAY?

I just feel like as a society we are making a mockery of the TRULY important holidays and awareness days. I mean, why exactly do we need a "Drive Your Studebaker Day"? These asinine "holidays" are just dumb things people came up with to get out of going to work. Or another reason to have a party. Wanna have a party? Wanna celebrate something??? Celebrate that you're alive today. Celebrate that you have electricity and an internet connection with which to read this. THAT's a reason to party!!

That said, I'm kind of a hypocrite because you won't catch me complaining about days like National Deep Dish Pizza Day, Sushi Day, Ice Cream Day, Bacon Day, Chocolate Day or Doughnut Day!!!!

By the way, if you didn't already know it, today is Grandma Moses Day.
